Privacy notice
This map works without an account. We collect as little as possible. This page tells you what we keep, why, and for how long.
What the public map shows
- The type of report (nest, hornets seen, nest removed), its status and the day.
- An area of about 150 × 150 m, not your pin. We move every report to the centre of its grid cell before we show it. The public map and the public data never contain the exact place.
- Your photo, but only after a moderator approves it. Notes are never public.
What we keep, and why
- The exact place of the pin and the GPS accuracy. We share it only with public authorities and pest controllers, so that they can find and remove the nest. We delete it after 12 months.
- Your note, for the same people and for the same reason. Do not write your name, phone number or other personal data in the note.
- Your photo. We remove all metadata (GPS, camera, time) before we store it. A photo can still show your house or street: think about this before you add one.
- A keyed hash of your IP address and of a random device ID (kept in your browser's local storage, not a cookie). We cannot turn a hash back into the IP. We use it to stop spam and to see if two reports come from two different people. We delete the hashes after 90 days.
What we do not do
- No user accounts, no advertising, no tracking cookies.
- "Nests near me" runs in your browser. Your location goes to our server only when you send a report.
- Our page counter stores only the page and the website that sent you (for example a news site). It stores no IP address and no ID.
Other services
- Map tiles come from OpenFreeMap (OpenStreetMap data). Your browser loads them directly, as with any online map.
- The report form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to stop bots. It loads only when you open the form. See Cloudflare's Turnstile privacy terms.
- The site runs on Vercel and the database on Supabase (servers in the EU when configured so).
Your rights
You can ask us to delete a report. Give us the report ID that you saw after you sent it. You can also complain to the Information and Data Protection Commissioner (IDPC) in Malta.
